Slumdog Millionaire

Cinema is a difficult form of art. There is a thin line the director needs to walk. One side there is entertainment and the other there is a great story to be told. And if a director can walk that thin line, he is a genius. Danny Boyle did it once with Trainspotting and now with Slumdog.

There are enough reviews out there on the net so I wouldn't bother. But this is one movie that must not be missed. This is not a simple rags-to-riches story. This movie is a big jigsaw puzzle of coincidences that when placed in the right sequence in the right place results in the final destiny of the protagonist.

There is only one personal feeling that keeps coming back when I see these movies. Whenever a movie has made a name for itself in the West it invariably had a lot to do with poverty and, what an American tourist is told in the movie, "the real India". The same with Salaam Bombay. I wonder can a movie on India that doesn't show the poverty and slums be ever be acclaimed in the West. Of course good ones need to be made first. Can't rely on the 'Y' factory for them, can we ??
